Migrating to Zenoss 4.2.5 ......

Hi everyone,

I work in a company that manages around 3500 network devices. At present these devices are monitored by six Zenoss 3.2.2 servers; about 600 devices per Server. Each Zenoss Server points to a shared MYSQL database for event management. Each Server has this HW configuration: 65GB RAM and 8cpus.
My questions are:
- What is the maximum number of devices that I can manage with the Zenoss 4.2.5 version?
- What are the HW requirements for the Zenoss 4.2.5 version based on the number of managed devices?
- Are there any contraindications to using a single MySQL DB shared by multiple Zenoss 4.2.5 servers?

From what I have read, switching to the Zenoss 5.0 or 6 version implies a completely different management than version 4.2.5 or 3.2.2. Reason why I would like to migrate device management to a stable version of 4.2.5

Thanks for the support
David

I ran a 4.2.5 with 4500 devices. From routers, switches, to HP C7000 blade chassis and SAN's. I used a distributed collector configuration. There is a community/open source version out there that worked perfectly. 1 main server and 3 collectors. Now I could of probably done it with 1 or 2 collectors but we had hardware from West to East coast so did them by region. From our testing though the latest versions are much faster and should be able to do all of your devices on one of those servers. The biggest part will be your storage for MySQL and the rrd files on 4.2.5.
