Be careful - Zenoss has two (almost) entirely separate "Group" concepts. You can put a device into one or more device groups - these can be seen in the left-hand INFRASTRUCTURE menu. The second "Group" concept is a user group - very similar to any operating system group concept.
Where the two might come together is that a trigger is a mechanism for selecting when a notification (like email) will happen. One of the fields you can use in a trigger is that the device is a member of a particular device group. The trigger is then used in a Notification (which defines what action will take place). A subscriber to a notification may be an individual user, a user group, or both.
Cheers,
Jane

Hi JANE,
I have created a device group and a user group.
1. created a trigger and added the device group as well as user group for getting notification emails.
2. I would like to restrict the dashboard view to the particular group - how to map the dashboard for a particular user group with their device group.
PS: This is 5.3.0 core and i'm a beginner :)

If you want to restrict what people see in the GUI then you need to look at "Administered Objects" - look at the "Managing Users" chapter in the Admin Guide. If you have Zenoss Core, ignore any documentation about the ZenOperator role - that doesn't exist in Core.
Basically you can setup "Administered Objects" for Device Classes, Device Groups, Locations and/or individual device instances. The idea is that you probably default users to No role at all and then give them a role with more power in those areas of Zenoss that they need it.
Cheers,
Jane

The GUI doesn't make it very obvious but when you are looking at roles for a user, CTRL-left-click adds on roles - and removes them too - that's how you can remove roles.
You might also look at this paper I wrote - it's old but many of the principles are still correct -
https://www.skills-1st.co.uk/papers/jane/users_events_zproperties_paper.pdf .
