zenbatchdump / zenbatchload is your best bet here. Unfortunately, that will do devices, device classes, locations, groups and systems but it won't do anything to help port templates, events, mibs, alert customisation.
There were upgrade paths from 3.x to 4.x but there is still no real "upgrade" from 4.x to 5.x - do you really want to go there?
Cheers,
Jane

Zenoss 5.x is a completely different animal: Control Center, docker containers, etc..
I recommend you go with a fresh install of the latest version. Let me know if you need further help with your Zenoss installation.
Kind regards,

Is there at least a document explaining the upgrade from 3.1 to 3.2? I cannot find it in the archive.

I have some of the old upgrade guides. You could go from 3.1 to 3.2 and from 3.2.1 to 4.2.4 - but there may be lots of caveats! For example, by 4.2.4 a 64-bit OS is mandated and, from memory, there wasn't a nice upgrade from a 32-bit OS to a 64-bit OS as it broke rrdtool.
You also have a major event architecture change at 3.2.1 when the pipelined rabbit queues were introduced.
I would ask again whether you really want to try to upgrade from something as old as 3.0?? You won't get events ported, for sure.
If you go to 4.2.5 and the latest SUP, you may get away with doing a zenbackup just of your ZODB database and restoring that. You could certainly do a new install of 4.2.5 and use zenbatchdump / zenbatchload.
I have release notes (with some upgrade info) for Zenoss 3.2 and the upgrade guide for 4.2; I don't seem to have an upgrade guide for 3.2.1. If you want these, send me an email and I'll send them along.
Cheers,
Jane
