Hi

We have a Zenoss Core 4.2.5 running, monitoring about 1500-1700 devices (mainly from a single install but also some remote collectors).

I've been reading a few times that many recommend to stay on 4.2.5 for some time, but is there any considerations about when I should plan for a 5.1 upgrade I've been looking through the wiki, and I haven't been able to find the upgrade-documentation, is this still not released

I found somewhere that Zenoss core 5 will only monitor 1000 devices, is that true

I would appreciate any thoughts and recommendations regarding 4.2.5 to 5.x upgrading.

Thomas

Subject: You cannot upgrade. You will

You cannot upgrade. You will need to stand up a new Zenoss instance with 5, then migrate things over.

When to upgrade depends on many factors. Scaling and features are the two main ones in my opinion. You have to remember, smaller environments suffer more from using 5 when it comes to resources. Because the first couple of servers you have to get in place (Or the single server) uses more resources than 4 does. But in the long run, with larger environments (More collectors and such) it works out to be the same.

There is also a bit of a learning curve with 5, depending on how well you know docker, Zenoss 4 and Control Center.

Zenoss 5 will handle more than 1000 devices. I feel 5 scales better than 4. But I am still POCing 5 atm.

Documentation from Zenoss can be found at docs.zenoss.com.
