I know that Zenoss 5 is out, but is Zenoss 4.x still supported I am looking to upgrade from 3.x and I find the installation guide for 5.x to be a little daunting so I thought I'd see if 4.x is still supported and if it is, I'll go that route.

Not all RPS's affect core. You should be fine on 457. I'll find out if there's anything newer and if so update the ZenUp page.

We received official answer from Zenoss sales that Zenoss V4 will be soon End of Live (2016-H2), leaving us with a still really unstable/barely usable V5 version.

The wiki page at /ZenUp hasn't been updated in a long time, but there are a bunch of newer ZUPs at sourceforge
