We have a need for the user of the Zenoss Core console to select an event on the console and then be able to take two actions. Each "action" is to invoke a shell command with information from the event.

In one case, the shell command will send an email with the details of the event.

In the other case, the shell command would need to be called with a field from the event, and that would result in a web browser displaying information about that field value.

How would we go about implementing such menu items or buttons

You can setup event notifications to take action when a specific event comes in. For instance, send an email on certain events.

Thank you so much for your answer.

What we have are a couple of scripts that a human operator needs to invoke from the event display on certain events. One provides them details on actions they need to take. The other will create a file that triggers actions in another system.

The two items are separate and not necessarily going to occur at the same time or for the same event.

Automatic triggering of actions and sending of mail is not a good replacement for the operator being able to click on a menu item or even press a pane window button to trigger

Lvirden,

Adding buttons to the event console is possible. That said it is custom development. I'd be happy to discuss the effort involved to do something along those lines.

An alternative would be to create a command which could be invoked from the webUI. There's some complexity in grabbing the data from an event on a device and passing it into the command in this approach, but it's technically doable.
