Hi!

I'm trying to configure a class that is also know as "dependency". That feature helps you in that way if a switch on witch are connected (UpLink) other switches malfunctions, you get just one Error message or Alert and not form all of the switches witch are connected on the malfunction switch.

Now i want to know:
-where can i configure that in ZENOSS (Events, Infrastructure, ... )
-what event class or rule
-what must i configure (syntax)
-must i configure it on each switch separately or is it possible to configure it global

I'm relay not a programmer. And i must get that done till next week bout don't know how to do it.... I would be weary glad if some one could guide me through the setup.

Thank you in advance!

Which version of Zenoss Generally in v 4 anyway Zenoss manages layer 3 dependencies, but Layer 2 which you want require you to install and configure this zenpack: http://wiki.zenoss.org/ZenPack:Layer2 That supports v4 and v5 of Zenoss. That page explains what plugins you need to assign to the switches after installing the zenpack. James Pulver CLASSE Computer Group Cornell University

Thank you for reply!
I have Zenoss 4.2.5 version. In my network witch i want to monitor i have Layer 3 switches. But that dose not meter i guess.
I'll try that zenpack and we'll see what happens. I hope it works properly.

Thank you again for now.

Best regards, Ales Krek.

Hey.

I have installed
- PythonCollector ZenPack
- Layer2 ZenPack

Restarted the Zenoss and then added: -zenoss.snmp.ClientMAC and -zenoss.snmp.CDPLLDPDiscover on each switch in the network and restarted Zenoss again.

Now i'm testing and having problems with it. When i disconnect the switch from network on witch is connected another switch i still get report of two devices down.

Any ideas

Must i start/restart or install something i don't know

Thank you all!

And of course the e-mail translation munged my table:
Switch --- Dev

Time Event Zenoss device info What is expected to happen
0 sec Switch is up Switch UP Nothing
5 sec Dev is up Dev UP Nothing
60 sec Switch is up Switch UP Nothing
61 sec Switch goes down Switch UP Nothing
65 sec Dev is not Dev Down Dev Alert
pingable
120 sec Switch not Switch Down Switch Alert
pingable

Now, if the order is reversed, i.e. it pings the switch and realized it's down before it would ping the device, then it would suppress the Dev alert...

This is also why setting a trigger to a count > 1 can help with false alerts, at the expense of slowing down the alerts a bit.

Hey.

Thank you for your support! Now its working properly. I don't know what was wrong but it just started working yesterday.

Now I have just one question left :). When I get report of 3 devices down and after 2 minutes report changes to one device down and two reports saying:"SNMP agent down - no response received" witch fine.... But now the problem is after 3 hours all devices have the same report saying:"SNMP agent down - no response received" witch is not OK.
Any ideas what is wrong or why first device changes status report to "SNMP agent down - no response received"

Thank you!
