I am planning to monitor the ssl services on my insfrastructure, I was planning into using a tool such as sslscan (https://github.com/rbsec/sslscan) or similar that can run the checks and use the output to alert on zenoss.
I am mostly interested in having a warning when there are upcoming renewals, but having a rating according the ciphersuits and so on would be really nice too.
Anyone started with something similar

I just found this tool, it has a nagios style output (even with the error codes) that can be used for this purpose. http://prefetch.net/articles/checkcertificate.html
I'll let you know how I've integrated it when I'm done,
