Subject: | What's the purpose of the Severity field in some Data Sources' Edit Data Source dialog? |

If I double-click on the MemoryAvailableBytes data source in the Device/Server/Microsoft template, Zenoss will bring up the Edit Data Source dialog. This particular data source has a severity field, that by default is set to warning. There is no threshold associated with this field in the dialog. What is the purpose of this field How do I know what would trigger an event that would generate a severity of warning based on this field
Thanks!

Any event generated by that datasource would have a Severity of Warning. If you want to increase/decrease the severity, this is the place to do so.

Thanks, Andrew. How do I know what would generate an event I don't see any threshold for this datasource that would have to be passed for an event to be triggered Does Zenoss maintain a set of thresholds somewhere under the hood that would cause an event to be generated

Since the type of the memoryAvailableKBytes Data Source is SNMP, you should only be able to configure the Name and OID.
At least on my Zenoss 4.2.5 and 5 installation I can't see any Severity configuration on the Data Source itself.
Maybe you can post a screenshot!

I don't know all the possible errors of the mentioned Data Source that might trigger an event with the configured severity.
However I would guess that an authentication problem, or no returned data might be one of them.
