Is it possible to monitor by hostname instead of ip address I don't like the thought of making a lot of our devices (such as voip phones) static. Monitoring by hostname make us able to monitor many more devices. I understand that if dns is down we would get false device down alerts but as far as we are concerned the risk is small. If dns goes down (which it never has - knock on wood) I can live with the false alerts. Any way to do this

Can I ask how monitoring by hostname helps in monitoring more devices
The number of devices you can monitor depends on the number of collectors you have.
It is always recommended to use IP address as the DeviceID. However there is no harm in using the hostname as the DeviceID, here the IP must resolve to its FQDN otherwise its a problem.
