Subject: | DNS FQDN not resetting IP addresses. |

So if I add a user workstation that I want to monitor at a remote site. I add the device either through device discovery or through a FQDN; Zenoss will find the device, but the moment the WS DHCP address changes, Zenoss will not update automatically. Is this how Zenoss Core works From what I have read if you add the device by FQDN and have Title ID the same it should update the IP address. I can do a forward look up and it finds the correct IP but still doesn't update to the correct IP untill I push the change by Reset/Change IP address. My question is, should I add the device by IP (which is DHCP) or add the device by FQDN which doesn't update to correct IP.

Hi,
You'll probably have to write a zendmd script to change the IP address, and remodel automatically, and crontab that script. I would suggest that this solution be extensively tested on a dev box before going live.

So Zenoss doesn't have the ability to update DHCP IP address on it's own by using the DNS for those machines. This makes monitoring windows boxes rather annoying. I believe I have seen similar scripts that would do this. Basically the script needs to tell Zenoss to run the Reset/Change IP Address, wouldn't this be easier just to copy that command and make it run every 12 hours or something of the sort
