Subject: | Zenoss not running? |

Ok I have a running host, its on Ubuntu 13.10, I used VMwares Standalone convertor and P2V'd it. The resulting VM boots up fine, I can login and everything appears ok. But the httpd or apache part of Zenoss is apparently not running and I don;t know enough about to know where to look.
I get a 404 when trying to browse to it's ip:8080
Any advice would be appreciated.

I did a sudo service zenoss restart to verify the daemons were actually running.. and they all were.
Is there a config file that stores the IP address Because that did change between the P and the V.

Also I followed the instructions for the Rabbit stuff after changing the IP. Did not help.

Not sure why I didn't think of this yesterday.. but checking zenoss status I find the zenhub, zeneventd, zenactiond and zopectl are all not running.
I started attacking zenhub first, trying to manually start just it I get the following:
WARNING relstorage.adapters.mysql: UNable to connect: (2002, "Cant connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (111)")

You need to verify that MySQL is running and you can connect to it with the credentials listed in $ZENHOME/etc/globals.conf
Also restart rabbit to see if there are any errors!

As far as Mysql goes.. to checked to see if it was running
service mysql status
mysql stop/waiting
So i tried starting it
service mysql start
mysql start/running, process 4519
Then rechecked the status and it was back to stop/waiting. Tried a mysqladmin -u root -p status and got
error: cant connect to local mysql server through socket '/var/run/mysql/mysqld.sock' (111)

/var/log/mysql.log is empty too... Man I dont get what happened here. I mustve broke something during the P2V conversion.. Mysql is all messed up. After peeking into the /var/log/mysql/error.log It's full of errors.
I think Ill start over with a fresh install on a new VM, try restoring the backup I took three days ago on that install.

Ok on a completely different VM, fresh install of Mint and Zenoss.. Mysql fails to start because of the same error. Relstorage.adapters.mysql
trying to find anything on that.. having no luck yet.

Not sure whats going on on this still.. but it seems that Mysql wasnt getting installed. I manually installed Mysql 5.5, then got a different error about the zodb not existing. So I created it, making sure that zenoss user had full perms, re-ran the .sh and now the error changed to "InnoDB: ROW_FORMAT_COMPRESSED requires Innodb_file_per_table"
Im still googling on this one.

Bicarbonate:
I _DO NOT RECOMMEND_ _EVER_ (enough emphasis) using the VMware image for production. I would suggest following the Install instructions found here: http://wiki.zenoss.org/Install_Zenoss
Note that this can absolutely be done in a VM, but it initially requires internet access to download/install.

You need to start fresh, and monitor the script install log to see what is "blowing up".
