Subject: | Stop monitoring group? |

With the subnets that I've autodiscovered.. I've also found my users's pc's and laptops. Obviously you don;t want to be monitoring laptops or pc's as they're shutdown and or taken home regularly. Is there a way to exclude a device group from being monitored

you could simply put them in a device class and suppress events related to disconnects across your desktop class

Heh Trelane, You lost me at suppress events related to disconnect. Would this be akin to applying a template to an entire class

I just figured out how to do that.. to some degree. By binding templates.

Trelane's suggestion is the best approach, put all those user devices in say /Desktops or /NotMonitored. Then set your trigger to say "device class not /Desktops". That way Zenoss will still show them up/down but won't generate an alert.
The other option is to change the configuration properties for each one and disable ping monitoring.

Having a hard time figuring this one out again. Looking under triggers I only have the one MSExchange..
Are you saying I should create a new trigger, for NotMonitored, then set the rule to be "Device Class contains /Not Monitored"
( i do have a class called that BTW)
But how do I set the suppression of the notifications

I think you are confused on your terminology. It seems like you want to silence the Critical Events that occur from when a laptop is powered off or disconnected.
The easiest solution for that, is to set the Configuration Properties for each laptop/desktop to ignore ping = yes. That way it won't try to ping them. Then only bind the ping template to your /NotMonitored. Problem solved :P
I was confused since you said notification, I assumed you had created a trigger create a notification (email), but that was not the case.

Exactly.. but I'm still having trouble understanding. I 'm not sure why other than a lack of experience. I think I'm going to delete these devices.. i mean I don't need them monitored anyway right Plus that beats configuring each, individual device.

That is what I would do, no reason to monitor desktops and laptops!
