Zenoss 5 ZenPack compatibility

Hi All,

I have just installed Zenoss 5 for testing (I use Zenoss 4 in production environment).
Now I'm trying to install Zenpack on Zenoss 5 but in the 99% of ZenPacks I found "Compatible with Zenoss Core 4.2.x"
but nothing about Zenoss Core 5.
Is it right? Can i install Zenpacks for 4.2.x on 5.x?

Thanks
Ale

I'm afraid that the ZenPacks database is long overdue for some updating!

Unfortunately the answer is that some things might work and others won't.  If they don't, they may just need minor tweaking.

Which ZenPacks are you hoping to install on 5.x?

If you have a 5.x test environment, hopefully it is a VM - snapshots are your friend!  Use frequently!

There are also some changes in technique and in the commands to use - and these have changed slightly through the life of 5.x so check the appropriate Admin guide.

For info on 5.x ZenPack technique, you might pull the ZenPack Developers' Guide from https://github.com/ZenossDevGuide/DevGuide  .

Cheers,
Jane

So....
Out of this lot, the ZenPacks.zenoss ones are all produced by Zenoss and should have versions compatible with Zenoss 5.x

ZenPacks.ZenSystems.Juniper is one of mine and I believe have heard that it works on 5.x (I no longer have access to Juniper kit though).  Try it and come back to me if it barfs.

ZenPacks.community.deviceAdvDetail is probably needed as a prereq for Egor's ZenPacks.community.HPMon and that's a big ZenPack.  Don't know if anyone has tried it???  If anyone has, please report here!!  Well worth making it work if it doesn't already.
I assume ZenPacks.community.ConstructionKit is a prereq for one of the others - Brocade?  Fortigate?

Instead of ZenPacks.community.VMwareESXiMonitor, you might have a look at my Python version from https://gihttps://github.com/jcurry/ZenPacks.community.VMwareESXiMonitorPythonthub.com/jcurry/ZenPacks.community.VMwareESXiMonitorPython  . It does away with most of the prereqs and performs better under load as it uses zenpython rather than zencommand.  I believe I have heard that this works on a Zenoss 5.x.

ZenPacks.community.HPMSA and ZenPacks.community.JuniperPerformance I know nothing about.  ZenPacks.community.Netbotz is effectively the demo ZenPack for the zenpacklib SDK ( https://zenpack-sdk.zenoss.com/en/latest/  so certainly should have a version available for 5.x

Cheers,
Jane
