Make files downloadable from the interface

I would like to make an extension to Zenoss, hopefully in a ZenPack, that allows files to be downloaded from the device information page. For some device, the download of a configuration file can be automated. I would like to automate getting these files with Zenoss and with the help of the file compare function, keep 3 versions: The original, the previous, the current, and make all 3 downloadable from the device information page. This would add a 'disaster recovery' function to those devices.

Any ideas on how I could do this
