Subject: | I would like to monitor a server that Zenoss does not have direct access to. |

Hello, I have posted a similar question before but maybe this additional information will help. I would like to monitor a Linux Server (Server A) with Zenoss but I want to do so in such a way that Zenoss will not be able to directly talk with Server A. I would like to do this by utilizing snmp so that I can use the outputs of snmpwalks and snmptraps to monitor the server.
Can someone please explain what kind of information Zenoss needs to monitor over snmp and if there is a way to feed this kind of information into the program I would be more than happy to try and write my own ZenPack but I need some additional information before I start.

I keep reading this and my only thought is "massive headache, minimal return". Why can't you just query the server directly

The idea is to collect information about the status of the server if, for whatever reason, communication goes down between the two.

I do believe the SNMP agent can act as a proxy, see here:

I've never done this so your mileage may vary...

Thanks everyone for the replies. I have figured out a way to do monitoring by creating text files from nagios plugins, and then reading those files into Zenoss 4.2.5 by turning them into a script. I can not get this functionality to work with Zenoss 5 though.
