AWS Custom metrics in the AWS Zenpack

Hello all. I have sucessfully added some Custom Metrics that reference an EC2 as valid datasources and graphs but I am struggling with collecting data from AWS Standard Metrics for Elasticache, DynamoDb and a few Custom Metrics that are sourced more indirectly from logs. These do NOT specifically have instances referenced - they are sort of standalone. Are there any bright ideas out there
