Subject: | Help needed with ESXi monitoring - Zenoss 5 |

Hi to everyone,
first post here and new to Zenoss. Quite impressed by the product and so far I really like it.
I have an issue that maybe someone will be able to help me sorting it out.
I have installed on a Centos 7 the latest Zenoss build with the autodeploy script. Later I have installed following the instructions the VMware esxi monitor Zenpack. I have added two hosts (one running 5.5 and one running 6) but the status remains on device unknown and no data is pulled from the hosts. I have created a local account on each host and specified it in the zVSphere part in the Configuration Properties but this doesn't seem to help.
I am a bit lost to be honest and would appreciate advices to move on with this.
Thanks
Seb

Did you test the CLI command for polling the esxi hosts from the zenoss container (zenhub).
In my case, i had to install many missing libs.
In any case, if you read the most up to date comments on the wiki for that zenpack, you will see that i and another person have removed the hosts for now, since the zenpack produces 5 or more logins each time it polls, which fills up the vcenter/vsphere database pretty badly.

thanks for your reply Rcocchiararo. Yep saw that comment regarding the db bur I am just running this in a lab to test and see if tis should be implemented at a later stage.
This might sound pretty stupid but what is the "CLI command for polling the esxi hosts from the zenoss container " I ll look this up to see if I can found anything but if you can save me some time that would be nice ;)

i did not remember, that's why i did not mention it XD
resxtop --server hostname --user root -b -n 1 -a
Replace "hostname" for the hostname or ip of you esxi host, and "root" for the user you will use (or use root :P )
