im completely new to Zenoss and I've scowered the documentation but I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction on how and what zenpack to use and how to setup sql queries for monitoring a sql server. We need to monitor tables for data and setoff events if the data is wrong.

Not aware of any zenpack providing query & response analysis for SQL. Write a script to do it and use it as a COMMAND data source...

Look at the new-ish ZenPacks.zenoss.Microsoft.Windows ZenPack. That has some MS SQL support. http://wiki.zenoss.org/ZenPack:Microsoft_Windows

The ZenPack Jane pointed out should provide EXTENSIVE monitoring of MSSQL. I recently wrote an article on the coverage/perf data collected for that pack. You can find it here: http://blog.zenoss.com/2014/10/new-microsoft-windows-zenpack-simplifies-...
