I've created a new Version of the VMwareESXiMonitor ZenPack and would like to share it.

Can someone tell me how I can to that

All I have found is a guide on how to share a completely new ZenPack.

Thanks.

You can send a pull request on github to the maintainer, or just create a fork on github, and let the community manager know.

Thanks for the tip.

That's exactly what I have done. :)

Ok, so I just noticed that the "zenoss/Community-Zenpacks" repo is depreciated.

As far as I can tell all the new ZenPacks are directly added to the "zenoss" repo.

Unfortunately I can't create a fork of and therefore I also can't create a pull request.

I have uploaded the ZenPack into a new repo:
https://github.com/Mattikin/ZenPacks.community.VMwareESXiMonitor

But I don't know who I have to contact now!

Don't really understand why the other repo is deprecated...

It was pretty straight forward how to upload your source code to that repo...

Hi,
Head over to the ZenPack Catalog and add your new ZenPack there. Explain the fixes/changes in the wiki page. If you tag the release and add the tag we even build the egg for you.

thank you for sharing your new ZenPack!

Hello, two questions on this, I can see that the wiki has been edited, but the changes are not visible (unless I go to the 'view history' tab). The other one is about the zenpack, can it be used to monitor vsphere hosts

Hi,

Instead of overwriting our ZenPack, make a note on our ZenPack's page that you've fixed several bugs in the zenpack, and link to yours so that both can be developed concurrently. Call yours something like zenpack.matze.VMwareESXiMonitor. I apologize if I wasn't clear. Also I have given both of you permission to edit wiki pages without me having to confirm those edits.

Hey,

Oh, sorry. I must have misunderstood you then.

I undid my changes and published the ZenPack here:
http://wiki.zenoss.org/ZenPack:VMware_vSphere_ESXi

@ Aseques: Yes, it uses the VMware vSphere SDK for Perl to monitor ESXi Hosts. :)

Hi Matze, I wanted to test the zenpack and I see that yesterday it has been updated to 2.0.1, but the egg is not yet available. Does it have any ETA

Hey,

For some reason the auto build doesn't seem to work for my ZenPack.

I uploaded all the source files + tagged it correctly/added the tag to the release on the Wiki Page.

@Andrew: Could you help me out and tell me what I have done wrong

Thanks.

Matze:

You need to add a 2.0.1 tag to github, and didn't format the git url correctly. I used the SHA for the commit for now, the eggs should build shortly.

Andrew - please could you post a real idiots guide to creating / updating ZenPack entries (for idiots like me). You have told me several times in the past to "use the SHA" - I need an idiot proof guide to what you mean. I also need more explanation about when / how to use tags.

I am not a developer. I am a very occasional user of git. I am very happy to share code with the community but not if it is a struggle every time.

Thanks,
Jane

Believe me I've heard this request, but I am _NOT_ to be mistaken for any sort of GIT master. It's entirely likely I use it less often than you do. I've reached out to the Solutions team, manager, and product manager, to see if some additional docs can be created.

Hey Andrew,

I feel very bad that I have to bother you again, but the egg still doesn't get build...

I added the Tag to my Git release and also changed it on the Wiki Page.

What else have I done wrong

Please let me know.

Thanks.

I just found out that the git clone link on the wiki was wrong, I already modified it, so hopefully it should be build soon ..

The issue isn't the clone link, the ZenPack wasn't renamed when it was forked. You need to name it something new. ZenPack.matze.VMwareESXiMonitor or similar. You also need to link back to the old zenpack and note that you forked it.

Author: Matt

Me again.

I now removed my repository and forged the original one.

I also updated the source link, but it still doesn't work. :(

Isn't there some sort of log file you can check to tell me why exactly the build fails

And why do I have to rename the ZenPack I really don't want to do that, since it's still the original one, just updated/enhanced.

Let me know.

Thanks.

Subject: The problem is still that
Author: Andrew Kirch
Posted: 2014-11-10 12:25

The problem is still that there are two ZenPacks in the catalog that have the same python package name..

VMware ESXi Monitor
https://github.com/ericenns/ZenPacks.community.VMwareESXiMonitor.git

VMware vSphere ESXi
https://github.com/Mattikin/ZenPacks.community.VMwareESXiMonitor.git

The error about not finding the v2.0.1 tag is because one of these repositories (the one it's building) doesn't have the tag.

Hey Andrew,

Ok, that makes sense.

I now went ahead and opened a pull request and Eric merged my sources into his repository.

That's what I should have done in the first place...

The egg can now be downloaded from the wiki page of the original ZenPack:
http://wiki.zenoss.org/ZenPack:VMware_ESXi_Monitor

I'm sorry for all the confusion I caused.
