I've googled and found teh Zenoss wiki page that lists all the ZenPacks available.however I cannot find any actual download link. The description says that like for example the AD pack is in the Zenoss Core RPM.. however choosing to Install a Zenpack forces me to specify a file location. Am I doing it wrong

Many of the ZenPacks do not have a direct download link, but are bundled in the Zenoss-Core RPM. If you go to Advanced -> ZenPacks you can see which ones are already installed.
The installer (unless you modified it) will install the Core ZenPacks which will get you started. Non-Core ZenPacks usually have a download link on the wiki.

ZenPacks are *.egg files, you have to download it and upload/install the *.egg, unless you do it from command line.
