hi there,

i hope this is the right forum for my question.

i am new to zenoss and linux.
i wanted to learn zenoss so i tried to setup a VM on VIrtualBox and install CentOS 6.4 minimal installation and then tried working accourding to instructions i found on the internet (everythingshouldbevirtual-site) and tried installing zenoss 4.2.4. unfortunately the autodeploy script got stuck on getting the gpg key (or something like GPG key..) and when i ctrl+c and started the script again it got stuck even before the phase of getting the gpg key. there was no response in the CLI ...
So i tried something else- i downloaded the OVA file and tried installing it on a windows 7 pro machine on which i have Oracle VirtualBox installed. after double clicking the OVA file and editing the appliance settings to 1 CPU and 4 GB of RAM i got an error :
Failed to import appliance C:/Users/dovd/Downloads/zenoss-core-5.0.0-2015-02-25.vmware.ova.

Could not read the file 'zenoss-core-5.0.0-2015-02-25.vmware-disk1.vmdk.gz' (VERR_SHARING_VIOLATION).

Result Code: VBOX_E_FILE_ERROR (0x80BB0004)
Component: Appliance
Interface: IAppliance {3059cf9e-25c7-4f0b-9fa5-3c42e441670b}

Can Zenoss be installed on VirtualBox with so little resources or the problem result from something else

Thank You,

- Yes, you can "test" Zenoss 4.x - Download zenoss_core-4.2.5-2108-x86_64.vmware.zip (1.1 GB) from http://sourceforge.net/projects/zenoss/files/source=navbar
- No, you can't test Zenoss 5.x, because 4GB RAM is not enough - 20GB is officially required.

BTW: You can run VMware image on Virtualbox - google: import vmware image to virtualbox.

Sure. It's only about network config of your VM. You can open VPN connection to your production network and limit UI only to your local network. You can add many network interfaces, ... Only your networking skills are your limits :-)
