I installed both the VM image and manually in a ubuntu virtualbox VM following the http://beta.zenoss.io/Core-5-Beta-2/Documentation/Zenoss_Core_Beta_Insta...

IP address set to 192.168.1.200 and /etc/hosts written.

ps shows Java and serviced all running, but sudo serviced service list says "no services found". and could not connect to https://HOST

Tried the VM image provided by zenoss and manually installation, both failed.

Any ideas

The VM image provided on the zenoss website for beta 2 seems was not complete for me too.
It only installs serviced i.e. zenoss Control center.
You still have to install zenoss-core on top of it to get those services.
Try the following on top of your VM: sudo apt-get install -y zenoss-core-service
then list services you should see them all.

Although, I still fail to understand why the VM was given without this and the complete setup.
I did install the VMware image on a virtualbox by importing it.
I do not suppose this is an issue here.
