I've recently added a Cisco router to Zenoss core monitoring. I want to add a Cisco switch as well. Is adding the switch same as adding a router(except that I have to use vlans for assigning Ip address)
the other question in my mind is: what kind of regular or special things we can monitor about routers and switches

By default, Zenoss provides device classes under /Network for both routers and switches so I would start with those. The device class controls what modeler plugins are applied (ie config discovery routines) and what performance templates are applied (to monitor metrics regularly and create graphs).
Depending on the functionality of your Cisco kit, you might also look at the Layer2 ZenPack - http://wiki.zenoss.org/ZenPack:Layer2 . My BridgeMIB ZenPack ( http://wiki.zenoss.org/ZenPack:Bridge_MIB ) provides generic connectivity information for switches but this may be superceded by the Layer2 ZenPack.
Cheers,
Jane
