I have understood device modeling using cmd (ssh/telnet).
But instead I would want to model device using local scripts. These comes from previous solutions that uses https webservice for various device information retrieval. So i would want to know how can I model devices to instead call my local script with device as argument, instead of ssh/telnet commands to remote machines.

You mean model a device using your script, instead of zenmodel, from Zenoss WebUI

Hi!

I'd strongly suggest letting zenmodeler do it's job. If you're trying to add additional monitoring via shell commands, you need a command data source. These are written into a new template and can provide additional monitoring via commands that run on ssh. I recommend NOT putting a script on the remote server, but simply building it into the command data source. For more on creating a datasource, please refer to our wiki.

Hi Andrew,
Thanks for your comments.
I think we have a misunderstanding here.
I wanted to perform modeling a device using my own custom scripts present in local Zenoss server.
This is in place of regular modeling through SSH to device.
Is this possible If so, how can this be done.
Thanks,
LN

use python modeler plugin, this gives flexibility on the command to be issued. This command could be a local script as well.

Sulak: if you're wanting to pull back the system uname, you need to use a command data source. Please refer to: http://wiki.zenoss.org/Writing_Command_Data_Sources
