Hi Zenoss team,
how to create custom zenpacks on zenoss5 beta 2
1) tried as suggested in the documentation:
sudo serviced service run zope zenpack install ZenPack-File-Name
This fails with a traceback. See other thread I posted yesterday on this.
2) from the GUI there is no install zenpack as in previous release (probably still in development)
3) Created a new container that builds over zenoss/core-testing, with my .egg file from previous release
in /opt/zenoss/ZenPacks directory. Also updated easy_install.pth to include this ZenPack.
This does not even show up in the GUI.
-- so created another zenpack with the same name, that was already present in the ZenPacks directory,
zenpack GUI comes up with no options for the zenpack to be set.
-- Probably zenoss is upset because of my .egg file with same name already present.
But if so, why it did it not acknowledge that such a zenpack was present and cannot be loaded for whatever reason.
4) Created a new zenpack.
restarted serviced to check whether zenpack is persistent.
Again, after all services are up, zenpack is reported as below
" This pack was just installed, or is missing or broken. Please restart Zope. "
Now, I do not know how to test zenoss 5 beta 2 with any custom zenpacks other than what is bundled with the zenoss.
Can anyone please help, how to create/install a custom zenpack.
Did anyone else have success If so what did you do to get this working, what is your dev environment like.
Your inputs/help will be much appreciated.
Thanks,
LN

We are releasing a new beta version this week with a ton of bug fixes - several of them related to ZenPacks. I have been able to deploy non-bundled Zenoss ZenPacks OK but haven't tried any community ZenPacks.
I would recommend trying again on the new build and see how you go.

I did raise few bugs with jira and got some feedbacks as well. One of the items in testing new zenpacks was to upgrade serviced as well. How to upgrade serviced though Can you please provide some pointers/documentation here
