Subject: | Serial modem with Zenoss 5 |

Hi,
We have been using a GSM modem attached to a Zenoss host to send notifications.
We'd like to replicate this setup with Zenoss 5.
The modem appears as /dev/ttyUSB0 and we use gammu to send a message.
How would this be done with Zenoss5
If I attach to the Zope container, I do not see a /dev/ttyUSB0

put the modem on the main OS, and send an e-mail alert to a mailbox on that host. run a once a minute cron script to grab the mail and push it out via the gsm modem

So, more complexity, more things to break.
At this point, I might as well just use a mail to sms gateway. Which is exactly what I don't want.
There has to be a cleaner way to do this

You can specify --device option for docker - http://docs.docker.com/reference/commandline/cli/
But I'm not sure about "--device" support in control center (please raise Jira feature request).
Quick workaround: use USB/IP project on CC master and then you connect to your USB device by using IP from Zenoss Docker containers. I used this solution a few years ago, when Xenserver have had problem with attaching USB devices to VM.
Devops Monitoring Expert advice:
Dockerize/automate/monitor all the things.
